Emotions and Rational Faculty of IndividualEmotion is a biotic urging produced in response to an incentive. Emotion includes experiential, behavioral, and physiological elements, by which the individual tries to deal with a personally substantial matter of incidence. Feelings on the other hand are phenomenological features of emotions. Feelings are conscious phenomenological experiences and acceptance of emotions. When an individual feel something/someone strongly, he acquires a certain GUT-Feeling for it or its like which can be explained as individual’s “common sense” perception of what is morally right. Emotions can never be the reason for an individual’s action. His actions depend on feelings about which he possess conscious knowledge. Emotions can be positive or negative which arises without any conscious effort. When the Individual consciously accepts the emotion as his feeling, he enjoys it. otherwise, he rejects the emotion. Feelings are the most strengthening factors, and the strongest feelings are the ones unexpressed. Emotions according to me are Reward and Punishment systems. Just like pain and pleasure. Emotions cannot be avoided or stopped as they are not head startlingly irrational. Yet they are not result of conscious efforts of the Individual, and the Individual controls them by reasoning. While feelings are the result of Individuals conscious effort and hence are most precious.
The basic emotions are
anger

fear
sadness
joy
disgust
curiosity/interest
surprise
acceptance
None can be called as feeling, until properly checked on the scale of reason. Fear as discussed in previous post, the other/any other emotional situation may also be checked on the basis of existentialism and cognitivism. Once it becomes a conscious rationalized feeling, it becomes consistent and fundamental removing any chance of and for perturbed state, which causes/creates a strengthening platform within the Individual to enrich his own conscious period of life. One may use any sound approach towards emotions, if they reaches up to the mark of feelings, they becomes precious.
There always remains a shield of individual’s rational faculty (Intelligence/Intellect/Cognition power/Mind) in between “collective intelligence” and his actions. A rational man never acts on emotions. His actions are always guided by the rational faculty he POSSESSES! Emotions can be vital resource of information in relation to certainty, or at least, an important supply of information about one’s intrinsic reality which sometimes has to be understood, questioned and examined with extrinsic world to make certain whether what is being felt is a valid lead for action. Animals do not have that dominant rational faculty between emotion and action (for the same reason, animals cannot have rights, as animal rights) When animal feel fear, they react. On the other hand, Human does possess the Intellect/Mind to rationalize the emotions. Human acts on the basis of Rational Faculty, he reasons out the emotions and when the rational faculty is used “correctly” he expands and refines (or considers and rejects when appropriate). The primary Objective of emotions is just like that of pain and pleasure. The person without fear (an emotion) tends to achieve death far more quickly than an Individual who understands what he is feeling; why he is feeling it; and acts on the feeling, when he finds it appropriate and necessary. The emotions of a rational man are not his enemies but his means of enjoying life. But emotions are not his guide; the guide is mind, his rational faculty. On the other hand, animals are dependent on emotions for their survival, human is not. Human is dependent only on the consciousness/intellect/intelligence/Mind/Rational Faculty. And that is why he is not animal.

Good article explaining the difference between emotions and feelings…..Even though human being is considered as rational animal, sometimes, his/her actions are also based on emotions….rationality may not explain his/her behavior completely.

Pls correct the spelling of the word ‘emotion’ in the title.
