Renegade@ If one person accepts your decision as the best answer , that doesn`t mean you are absolutely right. If i was the person who posted the same question, i would not have rated 5 even in my worst dreams !!

I have a great deal of respect for IAS officers. Most of them struggle through the exams to sincerely serve their nation. Thats the reason many aspirants from rural background and non-IITians / IIM grads suceed to become IAS officers. I am not offending the IITians OR IIMees . They are highly educated, But only few choose IAS as career.

As a businessman , telecom sector can be improved by providing great services, contribute to govt through taxes. Yes, they do good. But dont you think only the urban ppl or the educated are the ones who benifit from these. WHAT ABouT THE PEOPLE WHO DONT HAVE THE BASIC AMENITIES IN LIFE ??? Here is where the honest IAS officers come into picture.

IAS post should be seen as platform to serve our people, to eradicate poverty, to lessen the gap between rich and poor, to lessen suicides of farmers, to create platform for education for all. NOT as a post to lead luxury life and command power. IAS is about poor NOT power..

Hi,Now I’m 20 only….But since ma childhood…I’m so much interested in IAS profile…When I was a school going boy,then ma elder bro was the member of CSR,in which there were so many things related to same,like IAS toppers,their profile,many things,Even I’m very crazy about movies which is related to Cops,spy or diplomatic services,So I want to be the same,I’m not interested in any or any field apart this,Because I want to work for the betterment of mankind,I want to do some cool thing for ma nation,I wanna make ma country as a superpower.
Now Singapore has got the best civil servants in the world.Because they’re putting a lot of attention into developing an efficient civil service because unless the civil service runs properly,the govt. doesn’t have the instruments. We must make a policy which is sensihttp://comluv.com/ble & implement the policy so that it works on the ground.that depends on having good civil servants,We must recruit good people,we must treat them well,fairly. This’s not just for the personal carriers but I say this because they’re doing good for the nation…..
Really I mean…I want to the same….Even If its possible for me then I’ll claim to all that guys to be the same who’ve really willing to work for the nation,for an Indians…..
Its really a nice stage,I learned so many good things from here…

Hey Guys,

It’s really encouraging to see all the comments. I am now working in a very well reputed company in the US, but I just want to do something good for the country. I am going to leave my job and try for IAS 2011. And of course, money is not the reason I am going fot it. I hope I will be able to carry the current level of honesty and conviction with me if I get selected.

Folks who have only bad words for IAS, no one denies that the system is in general corrupted. But if all of us keep saying that, how do you expect it to get better? It’s hard being an honest person in such an environment and very difficult to do something good. But it’s not impossible. It’s certainly doable, if you have the right kind of motivation and will power.

@Renegade, your answer to the original yahoo question was chosen as the best answer, not because it was good. But because it was the only answer. Should you also have mentioned that?

Will writing this stop someone for becoming an IAS or an entrepreneur. I dont think so. Those who want to become….will be far far away from this conversation.. Ask the one who is already an IAS officer. To make our nation, to make it stable we need to have deserving people to run this country and systems so we can become a developed nation.. government and economy works together. u cant compare it with entrepreneurship or become IAS. have peace :))

brothers and sisters…a lot has been written for and against many different professions.but lets not compare an apple and a mango.both have their own place.and well, many said of some profession being corrupt and the other being not…well let me emphasize that it’s not any profession that is wrong;its the people.now some may argue that when the system itself is corrupt ,you expect less good people in that profession..For that i can just reply that one day things will change.let i and others like me join that profession.

The logic all IAS officers are not corrupt hence IAS officers are a good lot is devoid of common sense. The logic that most IAS officers are corrupt hence IAS officers are a bad lot has much more common sense. The fact is that not the best talent of India goes into IAS, and if it does go I am sorry to say that India has such poor talent. The contribution of IAS to Indian civil society has been practically nil. No common Indian associates or looks to help from an IAS, because they know that most of them are corrupt.

wow..that’s a lot of view n counter-view…is the topic “down with IAS” or “Pro-entrepreneur” or a bit of both??

@renegade vision…do u think entrepreneurs dont deal in under the table deals??how naive are you??Ambanis,Birlas they all cut deals with politicians affecting the policies law in their own interest.(cant say about TATA).The very mineral wealth and natural resource of the country they mine,trade without a care for the natives.(KG basin for an instance)but yeah they do create wealth..and a part of their wealth is passed down to ministers..then to IAS officers..and so on.

But they do a mighty good thing for the society too.They create jobs for people.Thats the best thing.But these are the very people who corrupt the beaurocracy.This can go to and fro so lets stop at that.

Yeah i a have seen babus with soul as dark as night extracting money from ignorant illiterate poor ragged people.Just go into your Nagar Nigam Office,House tax,RTO offices and see for yourself.

I know of instances in very good private companies where you need to be the boss’s pet if u want to be promoted talented or otherwise.

There are plenty of decent IAS officers too we just dont hear of them.The RTI act was outcome of one such IRS officer’s efforts.(yeah he resigned in later).

I think it all boils down to this.What kind of a person u are.Whereever you are you will always easy unethical shortcuts for you.Its upto you.People who prepare for IAS are generally from lower middle class backgrounds who are trying to improve their position in society.They havent seen that much money n power ever before.How they do their duties once they become an IAS officer is a matter of their conscience.

But please dont paint every IAS officer with same brush nor think all entrepreneurs are saints.

The recent case of Madhuri Gupta spying for Pakistan because she was so frustrated with the IFS officers clearly indicates the lack of management skills or even basic skills of babus. The lower ranked government officers are the ones who are doing all the job, whilst the IAS and IFS officers do nothing, get better perks and also boss on lower ranked government officers. IAS is a burden on this country and should be removed as soon as possible

why do u need a policy by INTELLIGENT IAS to simply ****…
is it so difficult to do it on your own…
HAVE GOVERNMENT ONLY FOR MAINTAINING LAW AND ORDER AND PROVIDE SECURITY ND INFRASTRUCTURE.
WE DONT NEED GOVERMENT TO TELL US HOW MANY BRICKS WE CAN BUY, WHEN WE CAN HAVE A TELEPHONE CONNECTION, IF A RESTAURANT IS GOOD OR BAD.

even though IAS are not needed so much…but all these years we continue to have them and they HAVE FAILED IN EVRY SINGLE DUTY given to them…
a solution failing for 60 years is no SOLUTION.

CHANGE IS WHAT I NEED……

TO IAS FANS….stay happy in THIRD WORLD…
IM HPPY WITH A DREAM OF FIRST WORLD INDIA…
i know u FANS are in majority and my dream wont come true easily….BUT IM STRONG…and many of my kind too are…

………..BUSINESSMEN can be good ord bad but in both cases they contribute to society…….
In case a businessman is hurting our ecosystem it is GOVT’s duty to check, stop, curb the same but on the contrary GOVT creates a favorable habitat for such wrongdoers, but why this CONNIVANCE hurts more is that GOVT is pretty inactive in weeding out the pests but IS FULLY ACTIVE in impeding the good people be it IAS or BUSINESSMEN or SOCIALWORKERS from changing the system.
IAS have no choice being good or bad, they are paid to work for the country’s good……..

please name the IAS people who changed the country for better and made a positive difference….
all majority instances i hear are negative
BUT I CAN QUOTE THOUSAND ENTREPRENEURS that did do what is needed by this country…and fewer negative instances
BUT all imbeciles wud say they dont distribute money to poor…
people economics doesn’t work that way..i know you dont know about THE INVISIBLE HAND….but it means that economics doesn’t knock your door and give u presents..but just that with all the jobs they create …the goods they make…this pushes a society towards progress..but ur IAS ppl not satisfied with their loot would not let others do their duty…
tell me how many PSU’s (headed by IAS) are profitable….only a few (without competition like RAILWAYS,ONGC etc) are and only those which have been listed and adopted CORPORATE MANNERISMS…
agreed india needs good administration ut does these corrupt IAS IPS give us a good administration…NO they even thwart the attempts of some honest officers

GOOD BUSINESSMAN — -BAD BUSINESSMAN
1)people if a business man is good he would cause betterment of:
a)himself and his family
b)his employees- by creating jobs
c)area around him- by producing goods and services
d)poor- by doing charity or other constructive work
2)and if a business man is bad he would cause betterment of
a,b,c (same as above)
d)even if he omits ‘d’ from above he is not causing any harm, why are IAS fans against the poor guy if he is making some money,
e)the only harm he does is some crime like adulteration or tax evasion BUT LET ME REMIND IAS FANS…that these crimes are possible only because IAS,IRS,IPS dont do their duty, they joined it not because of any concern for service of indians..they jus want a red light and lots of money without hardwork….
NOW IAS FANS can argue that there can be GOOD IAS TOO…but let me tell you what…THE MAJORITY OF DIRTY IAS FRATERNITY would stop these good people (we have many examples)
CONCLUSION- GOOD businessmen do LOTS OF GOOD and BAD businessmen do a LITTLE LESS GOOD (BUT THEY DO GOOD)
NOW Lets study the second case:
GOOD IAS — -BAD IAS
1)IAS has no job being good or bad he has come there by his own choice..he swears that he would serve the country but all he does is a blatant rape of the country…
He is bound by duty to serve the people…thats why he is given a red light as a symbol of esteem above common man…he is supposed to lead the people…serve them…
politicians are filthy idiots…IAS should boycott their nefarious designs they have been given such powers but they chose not to….these intelligent IAS concoct sophisticated schemes to assist politicians to denude mother india and get a paltry tip in return…
THEY WANT TO EQUAL THE WEALTH OF BUSINESSMEN but are not willing to grind themselves….so use cheap shortcuts..
REMEMBER THIS IS NOT FOR HONEST IAS ppl…my father is an army officer too…BUT THE PROBLEM is the DIRTY FRATERNITY murders the honest whistleblowers, transfer them, abuse them and what not….the only problem is that these DIRTY IAS are in OVERWHELMING MAJORITY…
remember politicians and IAS cant do anything without each other…even if 50% of one of the groups chose to stop corruption it would be achieved in no time…BUT THEY WONT….politicians want intelligent IAS to loot the common people and IAS want politicians to save them from law as IAS wants nothin but commit innumerable crimes…be it bribery, their children creating raucous,
flaunting traffic rules, favoritism, assisting there businessmen friend to flaunt all rules and regulations
CONCLUSION:
BUSINESSMEN CAN BE GOOD OR BAD…in both ways he contributes
the wrongs they commit are supposed to be checked by IAS, IPS…
IAS and all have no option….they are supposed to be good…but they are criminals assisting more and bigger criminals…
SOLUTION:
country needs both…although MORE BUSINESSMEN and very few IAS IPS….
the problem can be cured if new IAS ENTRANTS REALLY JOIN THE SERVICES TO SERVE….soon they will overcrowd the bad fish and exterminate them…but only if they want to ….and that is not a near case…almost all people i know take IAS coachings in delhi to have that RED LIGHT CAR….and beat the hell out of asses of common man…

Just by saying “we are corrupt but since I believe others too are corrupt, my corruption is justified” is an illogical way to put justify your position. How many CEOs in professional firms are caught sleeping over 3 Crores of money in the bed? Yes people outside too might be corrupt but the % of corrupt ias officer will be atleast 10 time the corruption of people working in professional service firms. Without corruption anyway who would give a hoot for 25,000 job and giving salam to illiterate ministers for postings?

Well said Divyank,Neha & other good samaritans above.Initially I was also misled by the answer of this fictious Renegade division but later I had done some retrospection of these services & some introspection of myself.I came to a dynamic conclusion that all the civil servants are the “STEEL PILLARS OF THE NATION”. Upon them is embodied the responsibility of safeguarding the constitution,human-rights,democratic values etc etc etc..

There are corrupted officials in each & every field.But based on that we shouldn’t judge the entire auspicious services itself.A good policy written with values & common sense keeping in mind all the loopholes will serve a nation for a 1000 years.Recent example is the ‘Right to Information Act’ brought with the help of sacred institutions like LOKSATTA & MKSS. Hatsoff to the people’s endeavour in bringing it out.

Likewise a single good,honest official brings light to the lives of many.Remember “A SINGLE PERSON WITH CONVICTION IS A MAJORITY”.

Lastly note it down Renegade: — ‘The roots of your thinking itself are with great flaw.You are supposed to realise & you WILL realise.’
Try to lend a brick in the building of a nation,never try for its destruction.

It is man & man alone who creates history.Despite many crests&troughs,people will finally emerge victorious & go in freedom in a classless society free from exploitation of all forms.

i think IAS officers are the most dynamic people in the country as they pass the world’s most competitive exam as per wikipedia….and moreover they are the ones who direct the ministers in the state assemblies and union ministery…even our PM is guided by 10 IAS officers who work in the PMO.
