So what is Permafrost? It is the soil remaining at or below the freezing point of water for 2 or more years.
Now there are ‘continuous permafrost’ and ‘discontinuous permafrost’… many a times, just like solar waves, discontinuous permafrost also becomes a reason for higher temperatures, its a natural phenomenon, as discontinuous permafrost thaws, the methane and hydrocarbons gets a release in big amount which increases temperature and helps in further thawing of ice/soil. But it is discontinuous.
