Read all of Pink Floyd’s lyrics….actually READ from beginning to end….it’s a story. Everything they did had reason, and purpose…from Syd leaving to Roger leaving…for us to keep listening. And we did, but not all of us understood the message. READ the words…then think about the world and how it is.

All I can say is, “Brace for Impact”.

Nice post. Pink Floyd were always about free thinking and made some of the finest rock albums ever. I still play their stuff regularly after all these years.

I enjoy the song and believe its a rock classic. However, I think it was solely intended to massively appeal to teens when released in 1979. This songs obviously clearly would be on any high school kids list of favorite songs because it in essence bashes education. I guess it is comparable to alice cooper’s school’s out for summer. Another Brick in The Wall part 2 is much better however in all aspects(lyrically, instrumentally and vocally)but the corralation to appeal to young fans remains a key compenent that should be noted. Most kids listening to this song would not interpret it to be part of a long concept album’s story, that is speaking of Waters feelings of victimization and abuse while in his school age (elementary years) of education.

This is a great post. I am still young (18)but I have been dealing with the ideas of conforming since I was old enought to understand the idea (elementary school.) I agree with your post and think this is very well written. I feel that if you listened to much more of their songs and added some of the other ideas you could do a very nice piece of writting on Pink Floyd philosophy(thinkers philosophy) and society.

Listen to their album ‘Animals’ (1977) or ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ (1973) if you really want to dig into some of their philosophy.
‘The Wall’ was more a of a personal vendetta for Roger Waters and turned out to be more of a rock pop album, though it has it’s moments too.

But Meddle, DSOTM, WYWH and Animals are much more ‘Floydian’. Go for them.

Another Brick in the Wall - Lots has been said and lot more will be. Ill just point you in one more direction. Where is it said that the bricks of the Wall are of equal size?? We assume naturally in our minds that whats being referred to is a even brick wall.

Im praying you are a philosophy student/follower to use the powerful(& not easily decipherable)language you are. Say the same words simpler if you can and great reactions to your otherwise excellently written/maintained blog. Keep it up.
