@Rohit: you are right. But first, let Mr Nilekani be transparent and open about the loss of 150 biometric records, together with 2 laptops and a pen drive. Apparently his UIDAi does not think it is a very important matter.

@Udit: Some aspects presented here are not correct, that is true. But that is not surprising. Take cards. Mr Nilekani says UIDAI will not issue cards, but UIDAI is encouraging its partners to issue cards to registrants, for applications where it suits them – sale of insurance policies, membership schemes and so on, all commercial areas where people are already familiar with gaining some paid for benefits, as they do with credit and debit cards. A recent message from RBI says soon smartcards will become mandatory for bank account holders.

Finally, where are the errors in reporting that government databases were used in order to identify specific houses occupied by Dalits, Christians and Muslims, in recent communal attacks? Please do not let yourself live in denial.
