Necrophobia fear of death
Necrophobia
“To fear death is nothing other than to think oneself wise when one is not. For it is to think one knows what one does not know. No one knows whether death may not even turn out to be one of the greatest blessings of human beings. And yet people fear it as if they knew for certain it is the greatest evil.” (Socrates)
“Nothing in life is to be feared, only understood.” (Madame Marie Curie)
“In the light of the near-death experience, death is nothing more than the illusion of separateness and finality, and those who can believe in this vision of death, like near-death experiences themselves, lose all fear of it, for how can you fear that which does not exist?” (Dr. Ken Ring)
“I have absolutely no fear of death. From my near-death research and my personal experiences, death is, in my judgment, simply a transition into another kind of reality.” - (Dr. Raymond Moody)
“It’s not I who will die; it’s the world that will end.” (Ayn Rand.)
Necrophobia or thanatophobia is a very common problem in masses. People feel fear of death not only in extreme and dangerous conditions, but also in common situations too. As Socrates put it up, it seems to be foolish act. Is there any reason to fear of death? Even though the afterlife myths are no more common, yet the disquietude in people within themselves about what will happen after death, how it will feel when the awareness will end and the body will spoil, will it be like a sleep or something else? The vision of world going without them becomes heavy for them. The thought that they will be nothing more than a dark void or something else makes them wither. And that causes whole incertitude about death and they starts thinking about what and how will it be after death? Yet, that question is unanswerable. No one can answer it and no one can find the answer for that question.
“It’s not I who will die; it’s the world that will end.” Ayn Rand.
That short sentence is enough to clear out all such doubts because it expresses an absolute truth which is undeniable. The truth is, reality cannot be independent of consciousness. I always liked Nietzsche for his existentialism. “Existence precedes essence” that is, Individual’s existence is the basis of reality. On the other hand, I always despised Kant for his strange idea of Noumenon. I cannot digest the idea of something that exist independent of existence of human intellect, his conscious, because, if reality can exist independent of consciousness, then loosing my conscious won’t put an end to existence. Basically, there can be no substance of cognition without a tool of cognition. Without awareness, there cannot be anything I could be aware of. If I die, I loose my consciousness, and then the Universe itself will end with my conscious. It won’t remain anymore for me. It won’t be MINE anymore. This essentially means that I can never die, because if I loose my consciousness, there won’t be any existing world for me and hence no such thing as death or condition of being dead. I will be no more when it happens, I cannot live to see death. The other question of how death will be is also unanswerable. Moreover, it is faulty too. It is unanswerable because it is faulty. The fault is in guessing of substance of consciousness of after death, although there won’t be any tool of consciousness left. Since there is no essence of cognition possible without conscious awareness, asking for the quality of awareness of a non-conscious state is a vague and vain trial. The fault is in objectifying of the substance of cognition as being free from tool of cognition. Yet, objectivity always is a definite kind of correlation between existence and consciousness for which both sides are equally important. If you take away tool of conscious, there won’t be any substance of conscious.
Do not confuse it with the idiotic sense that loosing of my consciousness will put an end to existence of whole universe, but it will end to my access to existence, to my sense that something exist, it puts an end to me.
“Man, every man, is an end in himself, not the means to the ends of others.”
My cognizance of reality and myself is provisionally based on the existence of my consciousness which is limited in time. Beyond that limit of time, there exists nothing as MINE. I am dependent on my consciousness which is limited to a time. I won’t live to see my death, it is inexistence for me. Death is not only inexistent on the basis of my conscious awareness, it is unimportant too. My death will be real for others, who are not me. I will never see death, while I experience life every moment. There exist only my life and nothing else. Nothing is prior to me and nothing past me. What matters is life and my whole consciousness and attention of cognizance is for life. Death is insignificant.
