you don't need statistics (or probabilities) to prove that consuming poison will result in death.same is the case here, except that drugs are not as effective as poison & hence will work only in the long term. theories can be denied or debated.facts cannot be. i believe instead of banning drugs, there should be an education campaign so as to reduce it's demand. only problem is.. who will fund a massive education campaign in a libertarian society? where is the profit motive? (i'm sure we r all against govt campaigning since it uses money taxed from others)

as for the old lady, she must have had other habits that prolonged her life which we don’t know about. maybe she went jogging everyday & ate healthy food.. but to say that injecting harmful (certified by doctors) stuff into ur body won’t affect u is.. well..ludicrous!!

it's not a probability, it's a certainity

Well, there are no direct evidences of any such certainty, whatevere there is, is some complicated statisics having not much worth within them, those statistics only provide probabilities of shortening of life due to drug addictions, and thoise probabilities are no better than the probabilities of shortening of life due to railway crossing.
On the other hand, I can certify that your incessant addiction of Oxygen by taking breath in and giving breath out certainly decreases your life breath by breath. That doesn't mean you should stop breathing to save your life.

By the way, last week, a a lady of age 109 years expired here in a near village, she was highly addicted to tobacco and afeem since her youth.

Yes well GopiKishan will say that tobacco and afeem decreased that women's life as it is certainty, Aha, if she wasn't a drug addict, she might have lived for two more years.

"Sex shortens your life, traveling shortens your life, crossing the street shortens your life; WORKING shortens your life since working men live shorter than homemaker women."

All these things increases the probability of a short life. It does not shorten life by itself.Any adventure sport does the same. But once u get out of sky diving alive, it does not shorten the rest of ur life. However, it is not so with drugs. Other things remaining the same, a drug addict / smoker would have a shorter life after he has used them (it's not a probability, it's a certainity).

Please not that I'm not against the main theme of ur article. I support legalizing drugs too. But the way ur argument was put forward in this case was unconvincing.

There has been so much confusion around Marijuana with all these laws that have came about. People need to understand that it is basically prohibition in the worst way. We are trying to bring the best resource for Medical Marijuana Users all over the World.. Starting in California!

I've been using marijuana for over 30 years on a near daily basis (I've stopped when unwell or in hospital). While I can accept it is not entirely harmless, it is far less harmful than many would have us believe. Importantly, for many it can bring enormous benefits - legalise now
